Welcome to Week of the Geek! Thanks for sticking with us through our hiatus — my family went to Disney and we greatly enjoyed the break! Because I’ve been away for a bit, there’s quite a bit of news to cover, so let’s dive right in.
Movies
In one year, return to the Wizarding World with Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. #MagicInProgress #FantasticBeasts pic.twitter.com/8aWj8xhGj5

For this story, the tweet above really explains it all — we got our first cast photo from the next movie in the Fantastic Beasts series, along with a title: The Crimes of Grindelwald. Personally, I’m just really impressed with how much they made Jude Law look like the Dumbledore we all know and love.
Deadpool 2 meets Bob Ross in this teaser trailer for the upcoming movie. The movie debuts June 1, 2018. Along with the trailer, Fox also released this obviously accurate summary of the movie: “After surviving a near fatal bovine attack, a disfigured cafeteria chef (Wade Wilson) struggles to fulfill his dream of becoming Mayberry’s hottest bartender while also learning to cope with his lost sense of taste. Searching to regain his spice for life, as well as a flux capacitor, Wade must battle ninjas, the yakuza, and a pack of sexually aggressive canines, as he journeys around the world to discover the importance of family, friendship, and flavor – finding a new taste for adventure and earning the coveted coffee mug title of World’s Best Lover.”
Television
$250 million is a lot of money, but Amazon is gambling on it being worth it, and I’m hoping they’re right — that’s how much they spent on just the rights to produce a Lord of the Rings series. Rather, it would be more accurate to say a Middle Earth series, as the company claims it will take place before the events of the movies. Like most Tolkien fans, I’m anxiously waiting to see how this goes.
Other Stuff
Fans of Kick-Ass have a new reason to celebrate after a long break in the fandom — Millar has announced a new comic in the series, which will debut in February of 2018. The new series turns the titular character into a legacy, with a black mother taking up the mantle. There is no word yet on any television or movie plans for the series, but Millar recently made a deal with Netflix regarding other properties, so it’s not outside the realm of possibility.
There’s been a lot of buzz in the Labyrinth fandom recently, considering how old the movie is, but this is the biggest news yet — we’re getting a Labyrinth comic book! The series will cover Jareth’s origin story, as told by Jareth to baby Toby.
Niantic, who created Ingress and Pokemon Go, has announced their next game: a Harry Potter augmented reality game. We know next to nothing about it just yet, just that it will allow players to interact with the world around them much in the same way as Pokemon Go does. No release date has been announced.
Recommends
I’ve recently started playing a new co-op game that we are having a blast with: Overcooked. I was also lucky enough to recently get to do an interview with one of the creators of the game, which you can see here. I highly recommend the game if you have two or more players to work with!
That’s all we’ve got for this week! Stay tuned for all the upcoming geeky news and fun stuff we’ll be posting about throughout the holidays.
